1914 - A Minnesota institution is born. The year was 1914. Taft was president, World War One was budding in Europe, and Oscar Barnack invented the first 35mm camera, revolutionizing the camera business. In the burgeoning metropolis of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Herman Liss, a Russian immigrant, opened "National Camera Exchange," where he specialized in buying and selling new and used camera equipment. From the outset, Herman Liss dedicated himself to learning about the local community and its needs. "My grandfather felt knowing both his customers and his products were the key to a successful business," says Jon Liss, current president of National Camera Exchange. "He worked closely with the prestigious photo clubs in the twin cities in order to keep up-to-date on the latest developments in photography."The torch is passed from father to son.
