Join us for a dynamic and immersive workshop that will guide you through the fascinating world of astrophotography—from understanding the night sky to capturing breathtaking images of stars, constellations, and celestial events. This two-part experience is designed to equip you with the skills, tools, and confidence needed to take stunning night-sky images. Led by astrophotographer and educator Hussain Alwael, and sponsored by Sony.
Part 1: Online Seminar // Monday, June 16th // 6–7:30pm
Our workshop begins with an informative online seminar where Hussain will introduce key concepts in astrophotography. You’ll explore gear essentials, types of astrophotography, and get an in-depth look at how to plan successful night shoots. Learn about red light usage, adjusting electronic devices for nighttime work, and using planning tools for effective & successful astrophotography.
The seminar will run for approximately one hour, followed by a 30-minute Q&A session. Bring your questions and curiosity!
Part 2: Hands-On Workshop // Saturday, June 21st // 9:30pm–1am
Join us at a designated dark-sky site in the scenic St. Croix River Valley, about an hour northeast of the Twin Cities, for a hands-on astrophotography experience under the stars. You’ll put your knowledge from the online seminar into practice with guidance from Hussain and NCE photo experts. Practice techniques like capturing the Milky Way, star trails, and meteor shower photography using your own equipment or take advantage of Sony cameras and lenses available on-site for participants to use. Each attendee will receive a printed workshop field guide with gear tips, settings suggestions, and shooting checklists.
Please dress for nighttime weather and bring your personal camera, tripod, and headlamp (red light preferred). All camera brands and experience levels are welcome.
Please Note: In case of rain or heavy cloud cover, the live event will be rescheduled to Saturday, July 12th.
Registration Fee: $80
The registration fee includes access to both parts of the workshop, and a full-color, spiral-bound workshop guide filled with key techniques and expert tips. Registration closes on Sunday, June 15th at 10pm. Tickets are limited—so be sure to reserve your spot today!
